Watch the video, which shows what happens when carbon dioxide is bubbled into calcium hydroxide solution. The common name for calcium hydroxide solution is limewater.

This reaction can be used as a test for carbon dioxide: Carbon dioxide is the only substance in the gas state at room temperature that forms a precipitate in this way.
