We usually use the blue flame for heating, and not just because the yellow flame is so sooty:

The blue flame gives out much more energy as all of the carbon atoms bond with oxygen atoms to form carbon dioxide.

Warning! Danger of carbon monoxide.
If there is a poor supply of oxygen, there is also
the possibility of forming carbon monoxide
(CO)
, which is very poisonous.

This is why boilers and fires should be well maintained and rooms should have a good supply of fresh air.
