Wax, lead and salt are examples of substances with melting points above normal room temperature (about 20ºC). We find these substances in the solid state at room temperature.






Water and nail varnish remover (propanone) are examples of substances with melting points below room temperature. We find these substances in the liquid state at room temperature.
