Earlier,
when we explained boiling, we said that the particles needed
to be energetic enough to overcome the
particles’ hold on each other.
As the water evaporated in the video, the temperature of the
water in the dish stayed at room temperature (20ºC).
This is much lower than the boiling point of water, so how
do the particles get enough energy to escape?
To understand evaporation we need to look more closely at
the temperature of a sample and the energies of individual
particles.
