H1.1 WATER PARTICLES AND AIR PARTICLES
LINKS
We have seen that when water evaporates, we end up with water particles mixed with air particles.

The water particles have high energy when they escape, but they will exchange energy in collisions with air particles: many will become less energetic as a result.

The water particles will have the same distribution of energies as the air particles.

Notes: see Teachers’ Guide
Look at the diagram, and compare the numbers of water particles (shown as triangles) with high, medium and low energy, then do the same for the nitrogen and oxygen particles (shown as the other shapes).

(Reminder: red = high energy, orange = medium energy, yellow = low energy)
