Watch the video to see how dissolved nitrogen and oxygen come out of the solution when we heat a beaker of rainwater. The solubility of oxygen and nitrogen decrease as the temperature of the water increases, so they come out of solution as bubbles when we heat the water.

Oxygen is more soluble than nitrogen: 33% of the dissolved ‘air’ is oxygen. The dissolved oxygen is important because this is what fish (and other water animals) use for respiration.
