Many people think of rainwater as the purest natural sample of water you can get.

A sample of rainwater is not usually pure water, however. It is 99.9% water, but there are other substances dissolved in it, too: Since most samples of liquid water have been exposed to air at some time, they will contain dissolved ‘air.’

When we talk about ‘dissolved air’, this means that there are nitrogen and oxygen particles mixed in with the water particles:
