N2.2 CRYSTALS ON FREEZING: LEAD
LINKS
When the sample of sulfur freezes, crystals start forming in many places at the same time. These crystals then grow into each other. The final lump is made of lots of interlocking crystals.

Does this happen when lead freezes?

Metal objects.
Just like the lump of lead, all metal objects are lumps of interlocking crystals. The size of the crystals can make a big difference to the properties of the object. Small crystals
make it hard but brittle.
