TGF2: Melting behaviour of mixtures
'Separating Mixtures' is considered in topic K1 of this section.

Think for yourself questions

‘The animation shows only a few particles and these are nitrogen and oxygen. Why?’
Because 99% of the air is nitrogen or oxygen. You would need to be able to see a lot more particles in the ‘window’ before you would expect to see a particle of argon or carbon dioxide amongst them.

‘Which particles are the oxygen particles? How did you decide?’
The ovals are oxygen particles and the crosses are nitrogen particles; air is roughly 78% nitrogen 21% oxygen so if you can see more of one shape that will be the nitrogen.
