W1.2 WATER IS ESSENTIAL FOR ACIDS
LINKS
We know that calcium carbonate does not react with water. It must be reacting with the ethanoic acid, but it only reacts when the ethanoic acid is first dissolved in water. It is the same for all acids.

Acids only react like acids when they are dissolved in water.

In all of the experiments we will look at, the ‘acid’ will be a solution of the substance in water.
