Notes
on the video.
Students should be able to suggest that the blue substance
is copper sulfate.
Notes on the ‘Think for yourself’ questions
about the structures
Which atoms are not accounted for?
The two hydrogen atoms from each
sulphuric acid molecule and the one oxygen atom for each copper
atom in copper oxide.
Which substance could these atoms make?
Water. (Click on the question
mark to complete the reaction)
Why wouldn't we notice this as a new substance formed in the
chemical reaction?
There is already a lot of water in
the sulfuric acid solution.
Note on balanced equation pop-up
Clicking will reveal a pop-up image showing the correct
amounts of each substance to produce a balanced
equation: students can check this by counting the number
of each type of atom on each side of the equation.
