C4.1 GASES

The particles of some substances have a very weak ability to hold on to each other.

This means they have a very low boiling point.

At room temperature, these substances are above their boiling point so we find them in the gas state.









The table gives the boiling points of three examples:

Substance Boiling point
Oxygen -183°C
Nitrogen -196°C
Methane -164°C

Just like water in the gas state, they are clear, colourless and cannot be seen.
