Notes
on air pressure and boiling point.
Boiling point depends on the air pressure. When we talk about
the boiling points of substances we should remember we mean
at normal air pressure.
Notes on the video and ‘Think for Yourself’
questions
Why does the bag of oxygen puff up slightly to start with?
The temperature inside goes up, so
the pressure increases and the bag inflates a little more.
Why does the bag crumple up?
Oxygen particles are used up by the
reaction, so the pressure inside the bag drops. The air pressure
outside quashes the bag.
